Christian Bach died on January 1, 1782, in London, England, at the age of 48. He was a German composer, musician, and harpsichordist, and was one of the most prominent members of the Bach family, which included many famous composers. Christian composed opera, orchestral, and instrumental music, and was highly regarded in his time for his melodic inventiveness and use of unusual harmonic progressions. He spent much of his career in Italy, where he became known as the Milanese Bach, and later settled in London, where he established himself as a successful composer and conductor. Bach's music was an important influence on later composers such as Mozart and Beethoven, and his legacy continues to be celebrated today.
